I have a homelite st-185 and i was wanting to know how much compression should it have? My test shows i have 60lbs is that with in spec ?
Compression on a 2-cycle trimmer engine should be between 70psi and 120psi. 60psi is low. That would indicate a worn cylinder and piston rings.
I hope this helps,
Thanks mark that helps alot, but do you know if there are rebuilt kits?

I have a ST-185 Homelite trimmer I replaced the primer bulb and it will not pick up fuel. When you pump it, air bubbles will pump out of the filter but it won`t pick up fuel to the carb. What`s next?

replace filter !! and check that the fuel lines are still good
Question: Homelite St185
I have a Homelite st185 line trimmer the pull rope broke. I'm trying to fix but can't get the clutch cover and clutch off. Is there a trick or special tool needed? If I get it off is there a trick to replacing the starter rope? Thanks.

It takes a Torx screwdriver to take out the bolt in the center of the clutch then the clutch drum pulls off, you will have to put a piston stop in the engine( if you don't have one, take out spark plug and stuff a rope into the cylinder being careful not to lose the rope.) then with a brass drift the clutch plates unscrew with a light tap.
