Is there an alternative fuel tank?

Question: Troy Bilt Tb144 Problem

notlek

I cannot start my tb 144 cultivator/tiller. I have replaced the spark plug but so far that is all I have done.
after I depress the primer bulb a few times it no longer pops up, it just stays compressed and I am wondering if this might be the problem.

Any advice?

Thanks

Hello notlek,

You may have a clogged 791-182353 fuel filter, that may need replacement. I would also clean the carburetor. We have an article and video that explains how to clean your carburetor properly. Here is a link to it.

Hope this helps,

Question: Pull Start

Bob

I have a Troy-Bilt TB144 tiller with a problem. When I pull the starter rope nothing engages. Is this a clutch problem or is there a shear pin in there that has broken?

Hi Bob,

My guess would be that the teeth on the starter pulley have worn down. The starter pulley is item #52 on page B of the parts diagram. Replacing the starter pulley should solve the problem. The starter pulley is part #753-05072.

I hope this helps,

Question: Old Gas

Charlie Mullins

I think the carb may be gunked up with old gas. Is it feasible to try and clean it up or should I just get a new one? The engine will start but will not keep running. It acts like it is starving for gas. I pulled the gas filter off to see if that made a difference but it did not. It has fresh gas now and I cleaned the air filter. It will run if I keep squirting starting fluid into the breather. When you push the primer bulb until it is full of gas you can not push it anymore.

Question: Over Haul

Tom Best

I bought a new Troy-Bilt tb144. It had been owned before, someone had taken it home and did not put any oil in it and ran it until it would not run. I ordered a short block for it and I think this will get it going. Any Advice would be great.
