Question: Kirby Floor Nozzle
After replacing the switch in our Kirby G4 vacuum, I reassembled the motor and started the vacuum. It worked fine, but there was a high pitched whine and a plastic smell. I turned it off and took the floor nozzle off the vacuum. The belt lifter assembly fell off. The metal piece inside was red hot and the plastic on the belt lifter was very deformed. I ordered another belt lifter and installed it. The same thing happened. I unplugged it before it melted the lifter, but it was still hot. We have performed this operation many times without this happening. What are we doing wrong?

If you look on page 8 of the parts diagram. It is item number 20, it acts as a filter for the K-306799 carpet shampoo tank. You can see the parts diagrams by clicking on one of the models below.
Hope this helps,
Question: Kirby G4 Belt Body Lifter Keeps ...
After replacing the motor switch, I turned the Kirby G4 vacuum on. I did nothing but remove the floor nozzle during the install. It had worked fine previously. A high pitched noise and burning plastic smell came out of the machine. I turned it off and removed the nozzle. The belt lifter body was hot and melting. The metal hook inside was red hot. I ordered another one, installed it and the same thing. What is rubbing and why is it getting so hot? What am I either doing or not doing? We have taken it off and on for 17 years with no problem..
