Hello,

There are a couple of other items to check also along with the 753-1238 clutch. Make sure your drive shafts are connected and not worn on the ends. They would be part numbers 791-181852 lower flexible drive shaft, 753-04503 boom assembly (the upper drive shaft is in side of it). And check the clutch drum assembly, it may be rounded where the drive shaft goes through and it may be worn to thin for the clutch to make contact.

Question: Primer Bulb

When replacing the primer bulb several parts of the carburetor came off. I thought I put them back on the correct way but now all the trimmer will do is idle. When I give it gas to start trimming it dies. Should I replace the whole carburetor kit?

Hi dayoung,

I would start by cleaning the carburetor. We have an article and video available that will show you how. You can find it here...

How to Clean a 2-Cycle Carburetor.

If while cleaning the carb you notice that the diaphragm or the reed valves seem hard or brittle then you will need to install the carb repair kit.

I hope this helps,

Hello:
Noticed recently lower shaft housing is slipping in the click-link connector. - and although motor runs at high speed - get no joy at trimmer or acces. end. Part #753-0453 does that include female type fitting (not rounded out)? Is it repair I can make?

Question: Upper Drive Shaft Housing

Lakecam

Is this just the housing or is the driveshaft included. My housing is fine, but the drive shaft is stripped and will not turn the lower shaft.
UtahAV
Reply: Upper Drive Shaft Housing

UtahAV

Hi lakecam,

The shaft assembly includes both the outer shaft and the inner cable. It can only be offered this way because there are some connections on the inner cable that can only be made by the factory.

I hope this helps,

Did some major digging and here's what I found about the Ryobi 825R trimmer:
* Engine is 793-00007 aka AC-2.1, 26.1cc
* Fuel Line 0.080 ID, same as poulan 530069247. Tygon is better.
* Carburetor is Walbro WYL-187-1 aka Ryobi/Ryan/MTD 753-1225
* Carb Diaphragm kit is D11-WYL
* Carb Metering spring is 98-3160-7
* Carb Rebuild is K20-WYL or Ryobi 753-04014.
* Primer Bulb is 188-16-1 (originally 188-12-1)

Question: Head Replacement

How do I remove the spool head on my 825r trimmer, I have up to the slider off and now I am stuck?

Question: No Spark

I get no spark after cleaning the magnets and coil. I suspect the coil may be bad. Is there any way to check it?

Question: Carb

Adam

My trimmer wasn't running, and the fuel lines were bad so I replaced the fuel lines and fuel filter. Trimmer still didn't run. Realized the problem was in the carb. After looking at prices for a replacement, I decided to take my carb apart and clean everything. I paid special attention to the small holes and the diaphragm spring pendulum thing. I found that the diaphragm was getting stuck. After I took it apart, I scraped and cleaned it, reassembled the carb and voila! the trimmer runs again. I don't know how long this fix is going to work, but it saved me $66 so it's worth it to me. Hope this helps.

Question: Replace A Start Rope

Mike M

I have replaced the starter rope on my Ryobi. I put it back together and was able to start it. After I shut it down I was unable to use the pull cord to restart it. It was like it was seized. I took it apart again, put back together and thought I was ok. Same thing happened. Once I got it started I was unable to use the pull cord. Did I put it together wrong or is a part broken?
Is the drive shaft one piece from the clutch to the accessory?
WJA
Reply: Gas Trimmer Flexible Drive Shaft

WJA

Hi Gil,

The Ryobi trimmer actually utilizes two drive shafts in this unit. The upper drive shaft and housing assembly contains the drive shaft from the clutch and has a coupling on the other end to accept the lower drive shaft and housing assembly.

Hope this helps,
-WJA

Drain oil .Remove the Oil case cover. Wedge the crank to keep it from turning. Insert 20T (?) down center of clutch housing. Loosen screw holding clutch housing to crank shaft.

My engine will not hit optimum RPM. It starts fine and runs smooth, just not enough RPM to make the tools effective. I replaced the carb and plug. Could it be a blocked muffler? Any thoughts?

Hi brian, Unfortunately Ryobi does not provide individual parts for the carburetor on the 825r. It is only available as an assembly. It is part #753-1225 and is available from http://www.ereplacementparts.com. Good luck with your repair! -Mark

Question: Lack Of Fuel From Carb

Nick-BG

I replaced my fuel lines and primer ball after finding cracks in them. My trimmer will start is I prime the cylinder with fuel but will not remain running. It will not start with this priming. What do I do?
Mark
Reply: Lack Of Fuel From Carb

Mark

Hi Nick-BG, I think the problem is going to be in the carburetor. When fuel lines become cracked it can let dirt into the carb. The lines breaking down themselves can also put debris into the carb. Replacing the carb should get things running again. It is part #753-1225 and is available from http://www.ereplacementparts.com. Hope this helps! -Mark

Nick, I was wondering how you got the intake fuel line with the filter on the end inside the fuel tank? Of course I could take the plastic intake line off the filter and shove the fuel line into the top opening then fish out the line and reinstall the filter, but I kind of hate to take the line off the filter because it fits so tightly and would probably have to be cut off. How did you do it?

Also, did you buy a new carb, or just clean the old one to get it running again?

Question: Ryobi 825r

Am wanting to get to the clutch for inspection. Attempt to turn hidden screw cw and ccw by inserting long flat screwdriver blade thru the clutch housing shaft is pushing the limits of the screwdrivers quality.
Any suggestions beyond destroying the clutch housing?

when you say clutch housing you do mean the clutch itself right? (all metal)
take a hammer and punch. insert punch into center of clutch drum assembly. hit it hard 1 or 2 x. Might break it loose.

Question: Ryobi 825R 4 Cycle

Am going to order a new clutch assembly PN 753-05860 at a cost of $20.19. There is shown a washer behind the clutch assembly PN 9162-1 that has a price of $11.12.
It appears to be an ordinary washer- why should it be so expensive??
THANKS
Dave
Really good product. But like all small engines when they run they run when they don't they don't at all.
