Hi easton1,
The lever fits over a nut and is held with a c-clip.Remove the c-clip and move the lever up one or two notches to get it to tighten. If the lever is stripped then you can purchase the whole lever and nut assembly.Hope this helped.Good luck.

When the supporting disc is tightened the blade still spins. It does not tighten to the blade. Is there a washer missing and is it available through this company.
I turn on my saw and the blade does not move... only the shaft. I have varied the tightening, but to no avail. I discovered that part #25 (the washer behind the blade) is missing (after loaning the saw out, of course), but the part is not offered for replacement on this website. Any advice?

My New Skil 5400 circular saw blade release bolt will not loosen. I am attempting to install the blade for the first time. The manual states that if the shaft spins, strike the bolt counterclockwise in order to release.
No dice. Tried vice grips and Channel Locks to secure the shaft from
spinning...
Any other advice? I picked the saw up last year and it's been in the box since then...( good deals are hard to pass up )
any suggestions?
My saw is doing the same thing. It's because the piston gear is bad.

The saw has a "vari-torque clutch" that helps to prevent kickback. The mfg recommends tightening the blade stud a fraction of a turn-(1/8 in") to help prevent excess slippage.
I picked up a new cord for my Skil 5400 circular saw. I opened up the grip housing at access the switch so I could connect the new cord. My question is how do you release the old cord wires from the switch? There are exposed tangs next to the holes where the wires go into the switch housing.. are these release tangs? I don't want to break the switch housing trying to remove the wires...
Jonesy,
you need to release the tang holding the wire. It's installed on an angle to grab the wire when it gets pushed in. Take a straightened out paper clip or a thin dental pick and insert it along side the wire going into the switch and "gently" wiggle it. It will release the wire.
To install the new cord, use the old one as a template to determine how long to cut the wires to . Strip insulation off ends and "tin" them with solder(this is nessasary to be able to push the new cord wires into the switch). Be careful to route the wires the same way they were in the handle and to not crush the wires when it gets screwed back together.

If you're trying to remove the blade bolt ? General rule of thumb on "any" circular saw is the bolt comes off in the same direction as the blade turns. (usually there's an arrow on the guard too as a reminder).
I purchased this unit back on 9-21-02 and have used it on a regular basis and up until now have had no problems at all. The unit jammed up while cutting a board at an angle and the blade locked up and messed up part of the gear I am taking apart as I write. Will it be cheaper to fix or replace is the next question.
I have bought this tool , it come without manuel book , and I don t know how to change the blade . I couldn t find how to block the blade from turning to unscrew the bold, Someone can help me
