Question: Walbro

jay9898

Hello jay9898,

Sometimes manufactures will update parts for some of the machines. This may have happened in your case. In answer to either installing the 530071517 Repair kit, versus installing the new 530071629 carburetor. If you want to save some time, the new carburetor will take less time installing on your machine, than installing the repair kit and cleaning the existing carburetor.

Question: Fuel Tank Assemble

jay9898

Hello jay9898,

The Poulan 545103903 Fuel Tank Assembly, does include the fuel lines, fuel filter and fuel cap.

-WJA
Question: Fuel Pickup

warnerbob

I replaced the fuel line but do not know whic line the fuel pick-up assembly goes to. Is it the large line or the small line. When running it seems to run out of fuel, starts to die.
Your carburetor may need a gasket and diaphragm kit installed. They are cheap and easy to install. This cures some fuel problems, but not all.
It goes on the small line. It takes some effort, but you can use a little WD40 to help get it on.
Question: Installing The Spring Starter

PTurner

I "fixed" the Spring that came with it once but it pulled out again...
Does it ship already wound up like in pic? That would make installing it alot easier...but how do you get it to stay like that?
UtahAV
Hi PTurner,

We have an article and video that shows how to install a starter spring that I think you might find helpful. You can find it here...

How to Install a Trimmer Starter Spring.

I hope this helps,

-UtahAV
-Mark
The install article is well done, as I have done a few of these repairs myself. But on an older Echo starter, when you put the rope in the pulley, the knot to lock it will be UNDER the pulley, not on the top, making it a much trickier repair.
Question: Replace Muffler

jim

Where do I start on replacing the muffler on my weedeater leaf blower? I am pretty handy; is this something that I might try?
Thank you, Jim
The one on the FL1500 is connected to the cylinder with strong springs. You will have to remove the TOP engine cover to access it and probably the bottom cover too. The springs are pretty strong so get a good grip!
Question: Fuel System

Martin

What is the proper depth to put the two fuel lines that go into the tank (small & large)? My lines rotted and had to be replaced, but I can't seem to place them correctly to get the primer ball to work. I assume that the existing larger line is the return fuel and the smaller is the draw and works off of vacuum when pushing fuel out the larger exit line.
The large line goes into the tank no more than 3/4". The small line should have the filter on it and enough slack to reach either side of the fuel tank.
The large line goes into the tank no more than 3/4". The small line should have the filter on it and enough slack to reach either side of the fuel tank.
The fuel line that has the filter on the end should be plenty long enough to lay on the bottom of the tank at the farthest point. The return fuel line only has to enter the tank far enough so that it will not pull out. Say one-half inch or so.
Question: Drive Shaft Fl 1500 Le

Ed J

(1) The diagrams supplied do not depict the drive shaft and sleeves that are a part of this unit.
(2) There are 2 sleeves on the engine drive shaft between the blower assembly and the engine. One of the sleeves is around 3" or so long while the other, which fits over this 3" long sleeve, is only around one inch long. I cannot locate this on your parts diagram of this unit. Please advise.
link removed
One noticeable difference between Types 1-3 and Types 4-7 is the gasket kit used (different style and part number) and Types 4-7 utilize a Foam Air dam between the carb and cylinder where Types 1-3 do not. Look closely at the pics and part numbers.
Your FL1500 most likely is a trimmer. These diagrams are for an FL1500 Blower. Go back and select trimmers from the menu page for Weedeater or Poulan.
Question: Fuel Tank

Tom Burdin

The fuel tank for the Poulan FL1500 looks remarkably like the one for my Weedeater FL1500. Are they compatible?
Same
Weedeater is made by Poulan. Check the parts numbers on this site. They probably are the same thing.
Question: Witch One

Which carburetor do I order? There are 7 models for the fl1500.
The older models do not have a trigger control for throttle and use a Zama or Walbro carb with a manual throttle lever. (choke lever is optional). Newer models may have the throttle cable. If you inspect the carb you have you should be able to match it to one that is compatible on the machine. Remember the manual throttle lever on a carb is red and the manual choke lever is blue.
Question: Tool For Adjusting Carb.

Roger Paris

Is a special tool needed to adjust the carburetor after the gasket and diaphragm are replaced?
Hi Roger,

Your machine has an "EPA" carburetor. Starting in 1997 The EPA placed requirements on how clean small engines are required to burn. As part of this restriction the carburetors are set at the factory. The carb then either has the adjustment ports capped or they use special adjustment screws so that the carb can only be adjusted by a tech trained in compliance with the EPA directives. The manufacture offers the special carb adjustment tools their authorized repair shops but not to the general public. The manufacture is liable to ensure that the equipment they sell complies with the EPA directive and therefore will typically not offer the adjustment tools for sale to the general public. You can learn more about the EPA emissions requirements for small engines at the following link...

I hope this helps with your repair!

I HAD THE SAME ISSUE BUT CUT A SLOD IN EACH SCREW WITH A A DREMEL AND NOW CAN ADJUST AS NEEDED
They sell the manufacturer carb adjust tools on Ebay. Take a look. They are priced right too.
Question: Weedeater Blower(gas)

Jerry

Have model FL1500i There are two plastic tubes from the gas tank to the engine. Pieces have fallen off in the tank. Why two supply tubes from gas tank and how should they be configured?
How do I get the pieces back onto the tubes inside the tank?
Cut the end at angle try pushing thru into tank far enough to reach in with long nose pliers and pull enough thru to attach filter lightly grease the tubes first. Plan B. Push a small wire thru the tube and insert it thru into the tank pull gently with grease on tube the line with the gas flow back into the tank is the vent the filter line hooks to the top of the carb. Take the top plate off the carb, only 2 screws, and blow out the small screen most likely it will be stopped up. Hope this works for you. Good luck.
I also recommend you remove and clean the fuel tank and open the fuel pump cover on the carburetor and clean the fuel inlet screen underneath it.
The fuel pickup goes on the smaller of the two fuel lines. The larger line just protrudes about 1/4 to 1/2" into the tank. A small plastic piece connects to the end so it won't pull back out. You can pull the hoses out of the tank with a small hook fashioned out of a paper clip. Once you have the pieces on the tubes you can push them back in the tank. You may need to replace the fuel lines if they are brittle.

Thanks STEVENATOR for your Sep 2012 post. I found your answer to explain the small plastic piece. Is there an exploded parts drawing for model FL1500?
Thanks again, Gil Corey
Thanks for the info.
I cannot believe that my fuel lines are 24 years old, or that the EaterofWeeds is that age...its nearly as new, but still no compression, IMO.
I'll try the pro route, a screw in gage. The finger also works but is not noted for accuracy.
And , IMO, its a good/excellent quality unit, even if its "featherlite".
I am having carburetor problems with a Poulan / Weed Eater FL1500. I tried the suggested instructions given me under the thread Ryobi Brushcutter Carb Troubles, but the machine would not start with the single mixture screw two turns out. It starts and runs at SIX turns out, but it is hard to start and sometimes bogs down.
What is the correct compression reading for these engines? I have two Weed Eater FL1500 blowers - the one I spoke of before and a newer one that has only 40 psi of compression! It will barely try to start with starting fluid. While looking through other threads about Weed Eater machines, I saw one in which the machine read 25 psi on the gauge because it had a worn piston ring. I will take my machine apart to see if it has this same problem.

I took apart the carburetor of my first blower (the one I spoke of in my last post) and found the screen covered in gray sediment. It was so covered I could not see the screen. It has a new fuel filter in the tank, but has had this happen several times before. Any suggestions as to where the sediment is coming from?
