Questions & Answers

replace starter spring.
Richard for model number BVM200FE asked on 2018-09-11
Hello Richard, thank you for your question. The first step in this repair, is to make sure the engine has cooled and remove the wire and boot from spark plug. Then remove the recoil starter cover and secure the starter rope so it doesn't pull back through the housing. Untie the knot at the end and remove the handle. You will want to hold the recoil starter pulley and slowly release the tension on the spring. Remove the starter assembly screw and washer and un thread the starter cam. Gently remove the starter pulley and coiled spring underneath. Next, align the hook in the spring with the slot in the starter housing and hold the spring firmly in place while you remove the wire retainer. Make sure the rope is secured in the notch and align the pulley and rotate it clockwise until the pulley sets in place. Then rotate counterclockwise until the spring catches onto the pulley tab. Replace the starter cam, then hold the pulley as you secure the screw and washer. Now rotated the pulley counter clockwise approximately 3 or 4 times to put tension on the spring. The next step is to align the notch in the pulley with the hole in the starter housing and feed the rope through the starter housing. Insert the end of the rope through the hole in the handle and tie a knot to secure it. Make sure the knot is seated in the handle and make sure the recoil assembly rotates freely. Re position the starter on the engine then replace the screws to secure. Reattach the wire and boot to the spark plug and your blower should be ready for use!
Can you recommend a YouTube video for a Weedeater FL1500 showing how to replace the starter recoil spring? If not the next best brand will be okay.

FL 1500 Weed Eater Blower
My FL1500 Weed Eater blower must have been one of the very first one's manufactured because it did not have suffix number. I could not find a you tube video showing without a suffix. The number one problem I had was trying to use the Spring Starter 545008011 right out of the box. I could not get the rewind spring to retract the pull rope until after much frustration I rewound the spring in the opposite direction and that solved the problem.. Hope this helps someone with one of the very first blowers manufactured.
