The knob that adjusts the line pressure will not stay attached to the regulator valve

Question: RIDGID OF45150A Twinstack Won't ...

1365363

I have the RIDGID Twin Stack air compressor (OF45150A) and it won't shut down. I've adjusted the regulator all the way down and it just keeps running until the prssure relief valve kicks in. I changed out the pressure switch and am getting the same result. Could it be a bad check valve? Am I missing an adjustment to the pressure switch? I'm obviously missing something and could use some help. Thanks.
WJA
Hello 1365363,

This isn't a common occurrence. But you may have received a defective 24988 Pressure Switch. Just a thought.

-WJA
Thanks for the reply. Wouldn't you think, though that since it's the same issue after I changed the pressure switch, that the problem lies somewhere else? I bought the compressor new and have used it for a few years. Since I plan to keep it for a while, I had no problem changing out parts and so also changed the regulator. I'm not sure what else there is to change other than possibly the check valve. Any thoughts on that? Thanks again.
Ken
Hi Ken,
Only three things could cause that problem 1.The switch is wired wrong(but I assume that the switch had never been touched before this problem started) 2. The switch is defective( but getting two switches would be rather unlikely).3. The most common problem with the side mounted pressure switch is that dirt and slag from inside the compressor has clogged the hole that the nipple screws in to and is not allowing tank pressure to turn the pressure switch off.Try draining the air and removing the pressure switch and run a wire in the hole and make sure the airway is clear. If it still does it then I would replace the switch.Hope that helps.Good luck and Marry Christmas.
Tinker
I'll try it. Thank you sir and Merry Christmas.
WJA
Hello Tinkerdave,

I was hoping you would see this one and chime in with your expertise.

Thank you,

Question: Trips

1170075

My compressor tends to trip all the time. You either need to continue to press the reset plug in the back and repeat a few times, or move to a different plug. I do understand the outlet may not have enough amps. But what I don't understand is this problem happens on almost half of the outlets I try. It gets kind of frustrating for my guys out on jobs. Any thoughts or ideas?
Hi,
Both the Hitachi and Makita compressors use the same type of thermal link removed your case that is Thermal Protector
Part Number: 881-588. They had a history of getting weak and tripping prematurely.I'd try this first and that should take care of your problem.Hope this helps.Good luck.
Tinker
replacing a part I cannot find is nearly impossible. I don't see a thermal protection any where. is it inside the motor? I stripped the compressor covers off exposing the capacitors. the wiring seems to go into the motor out to the capacitors and back into the motor.
WJA
Hello 1454906 ,

If you look at the parts diagram for the Hitachi EC119SA Twin-Stack Air Compressor. The part number 881-588 Thermal Protector, is item number 33. Just about right in the middle of the diagram.

Question: Hitachi EC119SA

nmtroberts

When I drain the tanks on the compressor I find that the top tank at full pressure & the bottom tank is empty. The thing is that I find it this way all the time never in reverse. I don't think it is switching back & forth.

What value controls which tank is to be filled?
Hi nmtroberts,
You do have a bit of a problem. What happened is the feed line from the top tank to the bottom tank is clogged with slag and rust. You should see the pipe connecting the two tanks.Try draining what air you can and with the tank up side down tap around that pipe and see if you can loosen the clog up enough to clear the blockage.Another way is to drain both tanks and and use back pressure to clear the blockage. In the future be sure to drain your tanks after every use.Hope that helps.Good luck.

Question: Hitachi EC119SA

1108080

My compressor is hard to start in the morning or any time it sat a while. It humms & trips the thermal sw. To get it to work I have to have it on a 20 amp circuit, min 12 ga cord, drain both tanks, and cycle it several times through the thermal sw before it will run at full speed. It will turn over but slow compare to when it is up to full speed. WHat is the problem? Caps??
Hi nmtroberts,
Generally speaking that what it sound like. That compressor has allways had some problems starting when it was cold out.Make sure your using the synthetic compressor oil in it.Hope that helps.Good luck.

Question: EC119SA

1102969

purchased this model refurbished. started once then would not start 2nd run. switch replaced by local repairman certified hitachi. started once would not start again. Does this replace an original faulty switch?
WJA
Hello 1102969,

You are correct. The 882-609 pressure switch has replaced the old switch, part number 882611.

Question: Hitachi Compressor

KennyV

I have a model 1195a that the electric motor runs but does not build pressure. Is this the start valve or would it be the reed valves at the top of the compressor motor head?
Hi KennyV,
Remove your cylinder head and check your 881-555 Set of 4 Gaskets.Replace the whole set if broken or damaged.Torque head bolts to 120 inch pounds then run compressor until its warned up and re torque the head bolts.
Hope that helps.Good luck.

Question: Regulator Selector

Wes

After coming home from an out of town trip, I've discovered the Regulator Selector knob missing and I found 1 spring. What parts do I need to order in order to replace this knob?
WJA
Hello Wes,

The only way to get a new knob for your regulator is to order the complete regulator itself, part number 885-807.

Hope this helps,
