Only sputters when powered on, no response from the variable button. Is this a problem with the brushes? Can they be replaced or is it trashed? Any help would be appreciated.

The tool only works on one speed. I think the controller is shot for the variable speed.

Robb have you pulled the on switch to the second position? Just a try, they do stick a lot.

Mine has a similar problem, regardless of switch position. At any position, the speed modulates up and down, as if the controller has lost its mind.
Is there an electronics board inside that contains the control circuitry that can be replaced?
Any advice appreciated.
