Is steam leaking from your pressure canner lid? Then you need a new sealing ring. The sealing ring forms the seal between your pressure canner pot and the lid. The seal is made of rubber and will harden over time (or even crack). When this happens, the lid won't seal tightly and steam can leak. The sealing ring kit includes a new automatic air vent. The air vent grommet is also made of rubber and will harden over time. The air vent should be replaced whenever the seal is replaced to ensure safe operation of your pressure canner.
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE SEALING RING & AIR VENT 1. Remove the sealing ring and air vent.
a. Use a screwdriver to pry away the old sealing ring from the lid.
b. Use a screwdriver to push the air vent through the top of the lid.
INSTALLING THE NEW SEALING RING & AIR VENT 2. Clean the components.
a. Thoroughly clean the pressure canner lid to remove any food or calcium that might have built-up underneath the old seal and the old air vent.
b. Before installing the new sealing ring and air vent, wash and dry the new components with hot water and soap.
c. Dry the new sealing ring and air vent before installation.
3. Install the sealing ring and air vent.
a. Slide the new sealing ring into the groove around the pressure canner lid.
b. Install the new air vent from the inside of the lid (the domed portion should be down).
c. Press firmly on the new air vent to seat the grommet in the lid.
