No matter how well you've taken care of your Troy-Bilt lawn mower over the years, the muffler can still be one of the first parts to give out and need replacement. However, this repair is something that anyone with a few basic tools can complete in less than an hour. 1. Remove the starter assembly

Use a socket wrench to remove the four bolts securing the starter assembly, then remove it from the mower.

 

2. Drain any fuel in tank

This is done to prevent any spilling.

 

3. Remove the fuel line

Use a pair of pliers to remove the fuel line clamp.

 

Then pull the fuel line away from the shutoff valve.

 

4. Remove the gas tank

This can now be pulled away from the engine.

 

5. Remove the muffler cover

Use a socket wrench to remove the three bolts securing this to the mower, then set it aside.

 

6. Remove the muffler

Use your socket wrench to remove the two muffler bolts, then set the muffler aside or throw it away.

  Installing the Muffler

1. Install and secure the new muffler

Place the new muffler into position and secure it with the two bolts that were removed earlier.

 

2. Replace the muffler cover

Set the muffler cover over the muffler and secure with three bolts.

 

3. Replace the gas tank

This will simply be set back into position. Just make sure it's positioned correctly!

 

4. Reinstall the fuel line

Use your fingers or pliers to push the fuel line back onto the shutoff valve and re-secure it with the hose clamp.

 

5. Reinstall the starter assembly

Finalize this repair by replacing and re-securing the starter assembly back onto the mower.
