Grease
Grease
As the grease becomes old, it will break down and start to leak out of the demolition hammer. To clean out the barrel of the old grease, and to add new grease, remove the barrel from the demolition hammer and take out the connecting rod from the crankshaft. Set the barrel aside and remove the piston and striker. Clean all the parts in thinner and dry thoroughly. Lubricate the entire inside of the barrel. Lubricate the piston lightly as you do not want a lot of grease on the inside of the piston. Lubricate the striker as well with grease. Place the striker inside the piston then slide the piston in the barrel, and then lubricate the needle bearing. Next, slide the needle bearing on the crankshaft as you are reattaching the barrel to the demolition hammer.

O-Rings
O-Rings
An o-ring is a mechanical gasket made to fit in a groove. The purpose of an o-ring is to provide a seal. Over time, this part will wear down and require replacement when it begins to leak.To replace the o-rings and seals, remove the barrel from the demolition hammer. Lift the connecting rod off of the crankshaft, or eccentric gear. Take out all parts inside, keeping them in order that you removed them.

Clean all parts in thinner and replace all o-rings and seals, including the ring on the piston (if there is one). It is best to replace all the seals and o-rings at the same time – this prevents you from having to do the job again shortly, should another o-ring or seal fail.

Oil Seals
Oil Seals
The purpose of the oil seal is to stop inside fluids from leaking out the clearance – between the shaft and housing. The seal may also be used to prevent outside materials, such as dirt, from moving in through the clearance. To replace a leaky seal, pry off the protective cover on the end of the bit holder and remove the c-clip with pliers. Remove the washer, spring cover and spring seat. Remove the retaining ring, washer, and the c-clip. Remove the seal and replace it with a new one. Reinstall the c-clip, washer and retaining ring. Then, reinstall the spring seat, spring cover, ball, washer, c-clip and then put on the protective cap.
