Band saw blade slipping? You probably need some new tires. The blade pulley tire attaches to the blade pulley. The tires are made of rubber, which provides traction to drive the blade. Over time, the tires will wear down from contact with abrasive metal shavings. The tire can also crack (due to age).
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE TIRE 1. Remove the blade pulley cover.
a. Remove three screws securing the blade pulley cover.
b. Remove the blade pulley cover.
2. Remove the blade pulley.
a. Use retaining-ring pliers to remove the retaining ring from the blade pulley shaft.
b. Remove the nylon washer.
c. Remove the blade pulley from the saw.
3. Remove the tire.
a. Remove the tire from the blade pulley.
INSTALLING THE NEW TIRE
4. Install the tire.
a. Align the cogs on the new pulley with the grooves on the new tire.
b. Stretch the new tire onto the blade pulley and work the edges smooth.
REASSEMBLING THE UNIT
5. Reinstall the blade pulley.
a. Install the blade pulley onto the shaft.
b. Install the nylon washer.
c. Secure the blade pulley with the retaining ring.
6. Reinstall the blade pulley cover.
a. Install the blade pulley cover.
b. Secure the blade pulley cover with the three screws.
