Your polisher uses a variable speed switch. The switch turns the polisher on and off and allows you to vary the speed. Over time, the switch can fail. It might no longer turn the polisher on; might work intermittently, or it might only run at one speed.
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE SWITCH 1. Remove the top half of the handle.
a. Remove the screws securing the top half of the handle to the lower half.
b. Lift the top half of the handle away from the lower half.
2. Remove the switch.
a. Remove the screw securing the switch to the lower handle.
b. Lift the switch assembly out of the lower handle.
c. Note the location of the switch wires (for reassembly).
d. Disconnect the two cord wires from the switch. (The wires are secured by trap door connectors. To disengage the connectors, insert a small pick into the openings on the switch and pull the wires out of the switch.)
e. Disconnect the remaining wires from the switch.
f. Remove the switch from the unit.
INSTALLING THE NEW SWITCH
3. Install the switch.
a. Install the wires onto the new switch (in the same configuration as the original wires).
b. Install the switch assembly into the lower handle.
c. Secure the switch with the screw.
REASSEMBLING THE UNIT
4. Reinstall the top of the handle.
a. Tuck any exposed wires into the lower handle.
b. Install the top half of the handle.
c. Secure the top half of the handle with the screws.
