The fuel return tube is one of several fuel lines on the trimmer. Its specific purpose is to return fuel to the fuel tank (from the carburetor) during priming. Because fuel tubes are made of plastic or rubber, they will eventually to harden or crack. When the condition is left unchecked, fuel may begin to leak from the cracks in the tube.
Fortunately, replacing the fuel return tube is easy to do. This article provides step-by-step instructions for removing and installing the fuel return tube on an Echo trimmer (model SRM-225).
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE FUEL RETURN TUBE [top] 1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
Loosen the thumb screw.
Remove the air cleaner lid.
Remove the air filter.
2. Drain the fuel.
Drain any excess fuel from the tank before servicing the unit.
3. Identify the fuel return tube.
Press and release the primer bulb on the carburetor (a few times).
Identify the tube that cycles fuel from the carburetor back into to the fuel tank during priming. This is the fuel return tube.
4. Remove the fuel return line.
Disconnect the fuel return tube from the fuel tank.
Disconnect the fuel return tube from the carburetor outlet.
Remove the fuel return tube from the unit.
INSTALLING THE NEW FUEL RETURN TUBE [top] 5. Install the fuel return tube.
Lightly lubricate the end of the line that will pass through the fuel tank grommet.
Insert the lubricated end of the fuel return line through the fuel tank grommet.
Install the opposite end of the fuel return line to the return outlet on the carburetor.
Feed any excess line (slack) through the fuel tank grommet, and into the fuel tank.
REASSEMBLING THE UNIT [top] 6. Reinstall the air filter.
Install the air filter into the air cleaner lid.
7. Reinstall the air filter lid.
Install the air filter lid onto the air cleaner case.
Secure the air filter lid with the thumbscrew.
