How to Replace the Chuck on a Milwaukee Hole Hawg Angle Drill

Finish Nailer Repair - Replacing the Driver Guide (Ridgid Part # 79004001022)
Milwaukee Hole Hawg Drill Chuck

The drill chuck adjusts open and closed to securely hold a drill bit, allowing you to use a variety of different sizes. There are three jaws on the chuck that clamp against the drill bit. After years of hard use, these jaws will wear, and your drill bit might begin to slip in the chuck. When this happens, it's time to replace the chuck.

Let's get started.

REMOVING THE DRILL CHUCK   1. Remove the chuck.

a. Switch the gear selector to the "LOW" setting.

b. Open the drill chuck to its widest position.

c. Use a hex wrench to remove the retaining screw from the chuck. (The screw is reverse-threaded, which requires clockwise rotation to loosen.)

d. Use a cold chisel and hammer to remove the drill chuck from the drive shaft.

INSTALLING THE NEW DRILL CHUCK

  2. Install the chuck.

a. Use a shop towel to clean any debris or grease from the drive shaft.

b. Align the slot on the bottom of the new drill chuck with the ears of the drive hub, and install the chuck onto the shaft.

c. Secure the new drill chuck to the shaft with the retaining screw.
