The spindle assembly consists of the spindle, the lower housing and seal, the spindle bearing, the spindle gear, and a retaining ring. Common problems with the spindle assembly are a bad bearing, a cracked housing, or stripped gears. If the spindle gear is stripped-out, you will also want to inspect the armature gear, as it will likely also be damaged.
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE SPINDLE AND GEAR 1. Remove the spindle and gear.
a. Remove the four screws securing the spindle assembly to the gear case.
b. Use a screwdriver to separate the spindle assembly from the gear case.
c. Remove the spindle assembly from the gear case.
INSTALLING THE NEW SPINDLE AND GEAR
2. Install the spindle and gear.
a. Install the new spindle and gear assembly into the gear case.
b. Rotate the spindle (as necessary) to align the internal gears.
c. Secure the spindle assembly to the gear case with the four screws.
