The handle fork and latch assembly both attaches the handle to your vacuum and allows the handle to pivot. After years of use, the fork can be cracked and the latch can wear out.
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE HANDLE FORK AND LATCH 1. Remove the handle.
a. Remove the nut and bolt securing the handle to the handle fork assembly.
b. Remove the handle from the unit.
2. Remove the handle fork and latch.
a. Remove the bolt (and locknut) securing the handle fork to the motor housing.
b. Remove the handle fork and latch from the vacuum.
INSTALLING THE NEW HANDLE FORK AND LATCH
3. Install the handle fork and latch.
a. Install the new handle fork and latch onto the motor housing.
b. Secure the new handle fork and latch with the bolt (and locknut). Do not overtighten the locknut.
c. Verify that the fork assembly pivots freely when the handle release lever is depressed. If not, loosen the locknut until the assembly pivots properly.
REASSEMBLING THE UNIT
4. Reinstall the handle.
a. Install the handle onto the new fork and latch assembly.
b. Secure the handle with the bolt (and nut).
