The fuel filter assembly removes any debris in the fuel before it can enter the heater's fuel system. The filter has a very fine plastic mesh that removes the impurities from the fuel. Over time, the filter can break down, which will allow debris to pass; potentially plugging the fuel nozzle.
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE FUEL FILTER 1. Safety first.
a. Disconnect the heater from its source of electricity.
b. Drain any excess fuel from the heater.
2. Remove the side cover.
a. There are covers on both sides of the heater. The following steps refer to the side cover containing the ON/OFF switch.
b. Remove the (4) screws securing the side cover to the lower housing.
c. Remove the side cover from the circuit board. (The cover is tethered to the circuit board by the switch wires, so be careful not to pull the side cover too far in any direction).
3. Disconnect the fuel line.
a. Use long-nosed pliers to disengage the clamp securing the fuel line to the fuel filter.
b. Use long-nosed pliers to disconnect the fuel line from the fuel filter.
4. Remove the fuel filter.
a. Use adjustable pliers to rotate the fuel filter in a counterclockwise direction to disengage the plastic locking tabs from the fuel tank.
b. Remove the fuel filter from the fuel tank.
INSTALLING THE NEW FUEL FILTER
5. Install the fuel filter.
a. Carefully install the new fuel filter into the fuel tank. (Be careful not to scrape or cut the filter on the edges of the tank as you install it.)
b. Align the locking tabs on the new fuel filter with the slots on the opening of the fuel tank and press the fuel filter into place.
c. Use adjustable pliers to rotate the fuel filter in a clockwise direction to engage the locking tabs.
REASSEMBLING THE UNIT
6. Reinstall the fuel line.
a. Install the fuel line onto the new fuel filter.
b. Secure the fuel line with the clamp.
7. Reinstall the side cover.
a. Install the side cover.
b. Secure the side cover with the (4) screws.
