The flange works with the nut to secure the grinding disc to your grinder. It has a 5/8-inch, non-threaded hole, a recess milled into it (that engages the spindle), and a 7/8-inch hub (to accept standard grinding wheels). Over time, the flange can wear, causing the grinding wheel to wobble.
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE FLANGE 1. Remove the flange.
a. Unscrew and remove the flange nut from the spindle. (Use the wrench supplied with the grinder, if necessary.)
b. Use two screwdrivers to pry the flange away from the spindle.
INSTALLING THE NEW FLANGE
2. Install the flange.
a. Install the new flange onto the spindle.
b. Press the flange firmly onto the spindle to seat the O-ring.
c. Depress the spindle-lock button. d. Rotate the flange until it engages the internal hub.
REASSEMBLING THE UNIT
3. Reinstall the flange (lock) nut.
a. Thread the flange nut onto the spindle.
b. Secure the flange nut with the wrench (supplied with the grinder).
