Lower chute plastic between lock nut & screw broken off from chute. Gear box cable to trigger handle broken.

    Francis - November 30, 2020
    Tool Type

    Snowblower

    Difficulty

    Hard

    Time

    More than 2 hours

    Tools Used

Screwdriver, Pliers, Socket set, Wrench Set, Adjustable Wrench, rubber mallet, WD40.

    1. removed old gear box & chute. Replaced chute (easy) just slips on in place of old one.
    2. attached new gear box (easy) one bolt with wing nut & one bolt with cotter pin.
    3. Lined up chute & gear box to fit (medium) had to undo gear box cotter pin/bolt & loosen other bolt & quite a bit of wriggling and a few mallet taps.
    4. Put shoulder screw through gear box and fasten flange lock nut (very hard). it is dam near impossible as it has to line up perfectly. there is a washer inside the chute cavity & a very hard to get to slide in for the flange lock nut. Much tinkering with loosening everything to get the bolt to go down far enough & line up for the lock nut to get hold of a thread. For the lock nut there is a slip in cavity on the chute that is extremely hard to access and the line up with the bolt is no easy task. Some WD helped but the line up was more than frustrating. This was a least 1 1/2 hour before success. Be very careful not to over tighten as this was the reason I needed a new chute in the first place. I do not have kind thoughts for the engineering of this setup.
    5. Attached gear box cable to trigger handle.(hard) disassemble trigger handle & place collar of cable onto holder & then end of cable on to sliding piece while replacing trigger back into place & then put handle back together. Would have worked better with two people as all these pieces like to pop out once you start on another portion. Spent another 1 1/2 hour on this working solo. Get help with this it'll be much easier.

I am not overly mechanically inclined, perhaps someone more so would have an easier job of it.

Installed new screws and nuts. The really good part, though, is how easy it was to find exactly what I needed. Instead of trying to match what I needed from the thousands of screws and nuts in a hardware store, I simply used your diagram of my mower and the rest was child's play. You take the guesswork out of buying replacement parts!
