The carburetor brings fuel and air together in the perfect ration for combustion. The carburetor has many tiny passages that route fuel through it. If dirt or corrosion plugs these passages, the engine will run poorly (or not start at all). Leaving fuel sitting in the carburetor for a month or more at a time can cause varnish and corrosion to form inside; restricting or stopping the flow of fuel. The kit includes the assembled carburetor, a couple lengths of fuel line, and splice fittings. A carburetor can be cleaned and rebuilt, but often, it is faster and less expensive to simply replace it.

Let's get started.

REMOVING THE CARBURETOR   1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.

a. Remove the air cleaner cover.
b. Remove the air filter mounting screws,
c. Pull the air cleaner base away from the engine.
d. Separate the air cleaner base from the carburetor assembly.
e. Use long-nosed pliers to disconnect the breather tube from the air cleaner base.
2. Remove the carburetor.

a. Disconnect the throttle cable from the carburetor.
b. Use long-nosed pliers to disconnect the fuel lines from the carburetor.
c. Remove the carburetor.

INSTALLING THE NEW CARBURETOR

  3. Install the carburetor.

d. Align the new fuel lines with the inlets (and outlets) on the new carburetor and cut the fuel lines to the proper length.
e. Install the new fuel lines onto the new carburetor.
f. Install the throttle cable onto the new carburetor.

REASSEMBLING THE UNIT

  4. Reinstall the air cleaner assembly.
