Finish Nailer Repair - Replacing the Driver Guide (Ridgid Part # 79004001022)
Tools & Materials
The drill chuck adjusts open and closed to securely hold a drill bit, allowing you to use a variety of different sizes. There are three jaws on the chuck that clamp against the drill bit. After years of hard use, these jaws will wear, and your drill bit might begin to slip in the chuck. When this happens, it's time to replace the chuck.
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE CHUCK 1. Remove the chuck.
a. Open the chuck to its widest position.
b. Use adjustable pliers to hold the body of the chuck (to prevent the chuck from rotating).
c. Use a hex wrench to loosen (and remove) the internal chuck retaining screw. (This screw is NOT reverse-threaded).
d. Remove the chuck from the spindle.
INSTALLING THE NEW CHUCK
2. Install the chuck.
a. Thread the new retaining screw into the new chuck.
b. Install the new chuck onto the spindle.
c. Use adjustable pliers to hold the body of the chuck (to prevent the chuck from rotating).
d. Tighten the retaining screw (using the hex wrench) to secure the new chuck to the spindle.
