The starter assembly is a quick way to get your blower running again if there is a problem with the starter. It consists of a pre-assembled starter and a new cup (with the pawls and the springs already installed). The kit will fix common starter issues (such as a broken spring, rope, pulley or pawls).
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE STARTER ASSEMBLY 1. Remove the starter.
a. Remove the screws securing the starter to the engine.
b. Remove the starter from the engine.
2. Remove the starter cup.
a. Remove the spark plug boot.
b. Remove the spark plug.
c. Insert a piece of nylon rope into the cylinder. (This will bind up the piston and will prevent the shaft from rotating.)
d. Use adjustable pliers to loosen (and remove) the starter cup.
INSTALLING THE NEW STARTER ASSEMBLY
3. Install the starter assembly.
a. Thread the new starter cup onto the shaft.
b. With the piston bound, use an adjustable wrench to secure the new cup.
c. Install the starter onto the engine (over the cup).
d. Pull the starter rope (gently) until the starter pulley aligns with the pawls.
e. Secure the starter assembly with the four screws.
REASSEMBLING THE UNIT
4. Reinstall the spark plug.
a. Remove the nylon rope from the cylinder.
b. Reinstall the spark plug.
c. Use a socket wrench to secure the spark plug.
