Can't seem to get a straight cut? You might need a new rear blade guide assembly. The rear blade guide assembly is one of two guide assemblies on your band saw. The guide supports the blade (side-to-side) to limit the blade's ability to twist. This helps to give it a straight cut. The guide also supports the rear of the blade so it doesn't push off the tire when you apply pressure to it during a cut. The blade guide assembly consists of the guide block and three bearing guides. Over time, the bearings will wear (and eventually seize). The block itself can become damaged by the blade, metal fatigue, or from accidental damage (such as dropping your saw).
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE REAR BLADE GUIDE 1. Remove the rear blade guide.
a. Remove the screw securing the bumper (and the inner portion of the rear blade guide) to the saw.
b. Remove the screw securing the front portion of the rear blade guide (this screw is positioned directly above the two rollers).
c. Remove the screw securing the rear portion of the rear blade guide (this screw is accessed from the back of the saw).
d. Remove the rear blade guide.
INSTALLING THE NEW REAR BLADE GUIDE
2. Install the rear blade guide.
a. Install the new rear blade guide onto the saw. (The two rollers should be positioned against the bumper; the single roller should be facing the back side of the saw).
b. Secure the rear blade guide with the three screws.
