Tools & Materials
There are two kerf plates on your miter saw: one on each side of the blade. The kerf plates are adjustable, so a tight opening can be maintained around the blade. A tight opening reduces tear-out and helps to prevent scrap pieces from kicking back. The kerf plates can become cracked or broken if there is a kickback. If you keep the kerf plates very close to the blade, they will eventually become cut (due to blade deflection).
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE KERF PLATE(S) 1. Unplug the saw.
a. Disconnect the saw from its power source.
2. Remove the kerf plate(s).
a. Each kerf plate is secured to the saw with three screws.
b. Remove the screws securing the kerf plate(s) to the saw.
c. Remove the kerf plate(s) from the saw.
INSTALLING THE NEW KERF PLATE(S)
3. Install the kerf plate(s).
a. Slide each new kerf plate(s) under the fence and align it with the base.
b. Install and partially tighten the mounting screws.
c. Lower the saw blade and adjust each kerf plate (nearer or farther from the blade).
