How to Replace the Trunnion Support Bracket on a Jet Band Saw

Finish Nailer Repair - Replacing the Driver Guide (Ridgid Part # 79004001022)
Trunnion support bracket for Jet bandsaw

The trunnion support bracket bolts onto the band saw's frame and accepts the table trunnions, which secure the saw's table. The trunnions attach to the curved portion of the bracket, and this allows the table to pivot (to make bevel cuts). The trunnion support bracket can be cracked (usually by accident; such as something falling on the table) or the bracket can become fatigued and crack after many years of use. If the bracket does crack, it will need to be replaced.

Let's get started.

REMOVING THE TRUNNION SUPPORT BRACKET   1. Remove the table.

a. Remove the table alignment pin.

b. Remove the table insert.

c. Remove the lock nuts. (Be sure the table is supported.)

d. Lift the table away from the trunnion support bracket (while guiding the blade through the slot in the table).

  2. Remove the trunnion support bracket.

a. Remove the two bolts securing the trunnion support bracket to the saw.

b. Remove the trunnion support bracket from the saw.

INSTALLING THE NEW TRUNNION SUPPORT BRACKET

  3. Transfer the components.

a. Loosen the nut at the base of the stop-bolt on the old support bracket.

b. Thread the stop-bolt out of the old support bracket.

c. Thread the stop-bolt into the new support bracket.

d. Remove the "bevel angle indicator" from the front of the old support bracket.

e. Install the "bevel angle indicator" onto the new support bracket.

  4. Install the trunnion support bracket.

a. Install the new trunnion support bracket onto the saw.

b. Align the two small pins on the frame with the matching holes on the underside of the support bracket's casting.

c. Secure the trunnion support bracket to the frame with the two bolts.

REASSEMBLING THE UNIT

  5. Reinstall the table.

a. Guide the blade through the slot in the table, and pivot the table so the trunnions align with the trunnion bracket.

b. Align the bolts on the trunnion with the trunnion bracket.

c. Secure the table with the lock knobs.

  6. Calibrate the table.

a. Loosen the table (lock knobs) slightly.

b. Use a square to align the table (to precisely 90-degrees to the blade).

c. Once the correct angle is met, secure the table by tightening the lock knobs.

d. Rotate the stop-bolt until it contacts the underside of the table.

e. Tighten the stop-bolt lock nut.

f. Install the table insert.

g. Install the table adjustment pin.
