Can't adjust the blade up or down on your table saw? You might need a new handwheel. The handwheel attaches to and rotates the spindle that raises (and lowers) the blade. The handwheel is made of plastic and engages a metal cross-pin on the spindle. After years of use, the plastic handwheel will wear down until it starts to slip against the metal cross-pin (and will no longer adjust the blade).
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE HANDWHEEL 1. Remove the handwheel.
a. Use a socket wrench to remove the nut that secures the handwheel.
b. Pull the handwheel off the metal cross pin. (Be careful not to lose the washer.)
INSTALLING THE NEW HANDWHEEL
2. Install the handwheel.
a. Slide the new handwheel onto the metal cross-pin, aligning the notches.
b. Secure the handwheel with the washer and the nut.
