How to Replace the Air Filter on an Echo Backpack Blower (Model PB-500T)

The air filter keeps debris out of the engine. Dirt and debris can clog the carburetor and damage the piston and cylinder. The filter is made out of pleated paper, and has a dense foam seal. The air filter should be inspected often, and replaced at least once a year (or more, depending on how frequently the blower is in operation). Replacing the air filter is a part of normal blower maintenance and will help keep the blower performing well (avoiding costly repairs).

REMOVING THE AIR FILTER   1. Remove the air filter.

a. Unthread the upper and lower thumb screws by hand.

b. Remove the air filter cover.

c. Remove the air filter from the air cleaner base.

  INSTALLING THE NEW AIR FILTER   3. Install the air filter.

a. Install the new air filter into the air cleaner base.

b. Make sure the foam is sealed to the base on all sides and corners.

  REASSEMBLING THE UNIT   4. Reinstall the air filter cover.

a. Install the air filter cover.

b. Secure the air filter cover to the base by tightening the thumb screws.
