The carburetor mixes fuel and air together in the perfect ratio for combustion. The carburetor has many small passages that direct fuel through it. If debris or corrosion plugs the passages, the engine will run poorly (or not start at all). A carburetor can be cleaned or rebuilt, but in many cases, it can save time and money to replace the carburetor as a whole.

Let's get started.

REMOVING THE CARBURETOR   1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.

a. Remove the upper and lower thumbscrew securing the air cleaner cover to the base.

b. Remove the air filter.

c. Remove the screws securing the air cleaner base to the cylinder.

d. Remove the air cleaner base and the rubber connector.

  2. Remove the carburetor.

a. Disconnect the throttle cable.

b. Disconnect the fuel lines. (You may want to make note of the position of the incoming and return lines to make sure they are installed in the correct position on the new carburetor.)

C. Remove the carburetor from the unit.

  INSTALLING THE NEW CARBURETOR

  3. Install the carburetor.

a. Connect the fuel lines to the new carburetor. (Be sure the incoming and return lines are connected to the correct ports on the pump body.)

b. Connect the throttle cable to the throttle shaft lever on the new carburetor.

c. Install the new carburetor onto the isolator (on the cylinder).

d. Reinstall the rubber connector onto the carburetor.

REASSEMBLING THE UNIT   4. Reinstall the air cleaner assembly.

a. Align the mounting screws on the air cleaner base with the mounting holes on the carburetor and the engine.

b. Tighten the screws to secure the air cleaner base (and the carburetor) to the engine.

c. Install the air filter onto the air cleaner base.

d. Install the air cleaner cover.

e. Secure the air cleaner cover with the (2) thumb screws.
