Questions & Answers

Does the package of part #784-5580-0637 contain 1 or 2 slide shoes? It appears correct for my model. Thank you Urban Picard
Urban for model number Troy Bilt Storm 2410
Hello Urban, thank you for your inquiry! Part 784-5580-0637 is sold individually so only 1 slide shoe comes in the package. I hope this information helps!
my snow blower won't disengage from 5th gear how to repair it?
thomas for model number 31as644e129
Hello Thomas, thank you for your inquiry! This is very common in snow blowers and relatively easy to fix. First stand your snowblower up on its snout so that the handles are facing straight up in the air. Next remove the belly pan from the snowblower. Once you have it opened up you will see the vertical drive disc covered in rubber. This disc moves left to right when you change gears. You will see a hex shaft that it rides on. Have a helper hold the gear shift so that it is not stuck in one of the detents. Next use a punch or long screwdriver and place it on the hex shaft next to the assembly that holds that rubber drive disc. You want to give it a good whack (not very technical, but it works - every time) Sometimes it takes a few tries, but it will move. Once it is free take some light oil like WD-40 and coat the hex shaft, wiping off any excess. Once you have it free, you can reinstall the belly pan and your snowblower will work and drive as it should. I hope this information helps!
I purchased glide shoes for my snow blower and they were metal. I are ready of a pair made out of hard plastic Does your company sell them? When one side wear down I can turn them around and use the other side. Please let me know.
robert gomez for model number 31am62n2711
Hello Robert, thank you for inquiring. There are two different plastic polymer Skid Shoes listed for your model snow thrower, part number 731-05984A, and part number 731-06439. Neither one of them are usable on both sides. You may want to reach out to Troy-Bilt directly to see if they can provide the compatible part number you are looking for. Please feel free to get back in touch with us if they do. Thank you!

The shoes are the part that contacts the ground, so they rub on the driveway and got very thin.
I removed the stove bolts and took off the old shoes, one on each side of the snowblower. Then I installed the new replacements and put on new stainless steel stove bolts that I got from Ace Hardware. One shoe took a little persuading to get it in alignment, but overall it was a very simple job.

Slide shoes worn down, so needed to be replaced. Also replaced the shave plate. Needed to go to hardware store for carriage bolts.
Removed carriage bolts. Broke them off, because they were rusted tight. Went to hardware store to buy new ones. Removed slide shoes and shave plate. Straightened blower sheet metal and put parts back on in reverse order. Adjusted for height and all done.

shave plate and slide shoes worn down
Remove slide shoes and remove shave plate-reinstall new parts-I bought new bolts to use in replacement.

When replacing bolts in shave plate-I had to grind the ends of the two inside bolts bolts down so they would clear the auger blades in the blower housing. When replacing the shave plate, make sure to rotate auger by hand to make sure the auger blades clear all bolts extending out of the nuts used to tighten.
