I took planet totally apart, cleaned everything and pulled old bearings off of cutter head shaft and motor shaft.
Commutator was turned round.
New bearings pressed on motor and cutter head .
End of cutter head shaft was struck with a hammer and mushroomed so I had to file off the upset end, force cutter head pulley off with plenty of oil to keep threads. I then reshaped the end of the cutter head shaft ran a die over the threads snd tapped out the internal threads of the cutter head pulley.
I re installed the motor and cutter head assembly into the tool case aided ONLY by gentle taps of a plastic small dead blow mallet, but mostly by careful, hand pressure at 90 degrees to the case.
Installed new brushes and caps.
Installed new wave washers under case screws.
This is a modified surfboard planet so it has a quick depth adjustment on the front shoe. 3/4 turn is from 0- full cut. I clean that assembly and apply a small amount of red rubber grease to the internal threads.
I also replaced the cut adjustment lever, and phenolic ball on the end. They have to be epoxied in place.
Between the repairs and maintenance work I had about 5.5 hours into this total rebuild. I ended it with a three wire power cord, with a ground wire that goes through the tool down to a stud and ring terminal that grounds on the planers sole. Now it shouldn’t build static electricity when used on a vac system.

Replaced with the new one.

Replaced button in handle.

1 Remove saw blade
2 Remove keeper washer
3 Installed new bushing and guard
4 Install keeper washer
5 Hooked spring to new guard
6 Installed old handle on new lower guard
