The metal spring is used in the dust bag, this helps keep the bag open to allow for the sawdust to collect. For a more thorough clean remove the spring and shake out the dust bag. Removed and replaced sanding discs and cushion pad on each sander. Each sander only required the removal of 4 screws each. Very simple, less than 10 minutes total for both sanders.
