2 Removed deck and belt
3 Removed drive belt and drive pulley from engine
4 Removed battery and all wires attached to engine
5 Removed muffler
6 Removed 4 bolts holding engine on the frame
7 Removed engine
8 Removed pan off bottom of engine removed and installed a new used cam shaft and lifters then put engine back together with all new gaskets
25+ year old Troy Bilt lawn tractor with Kohler engine. Throttle shaft seal worn off, linkage tab broken off, & throttle shaft was so worn that it was surrounded with brass dust. It would no longer

2. Removed air cleaner box from the carb.
3. Removed choke & throttle linkages from choke & throttle
4. Removed carb body. This took a little tugging, twisting because the gasket was stuck to both the carb body & intake port. Scraped old gasket of both surfaces.
5. Removed butterfly from throttle shaft.
6. Replaced throttle shaft & seal; reinstalled butterfly on shaft.
7. Installed new gasket. I like to use a thin film of grease on gaskets but maybe that's just me.
8. Repeated steps 4-3-2-1 using "replace" instead of "removed".
I thought my chances of getting replacement parts for an engine this old were about zero. Thanks to eReplacementParts, this old Kohler is running like a top! (It helps, too, that it's a Kohler.)
