This replacement air cleaner element is manufactured for use with Kohler engines installed on lawn and garden equipment. It is a genuine part that is used to filter out dust and debris from entering carburetor and the engine. It is made out of plastic with paper pleated filter and it is sold individually.

Replacing this item is a simple task that will not require any tools.

    Simple, drill down method. Start at the top, remove the old, eaten, or otherwise worn out items until satisfied with whats left. Reinstall in reverse order, test run, mow yard.

    dipstick broke inside engine grrr Kohler SV540

    Screwdriver, Pliers, Socket set, Wrench Set, Nutdriver, flywheel puller heat gun

    pulled closure plate,
    be sure to look at the cams, levers and valve stems before reassembly,
    read the entire instructions in the manual before starting...
    and check those cam gears for proper alignment
    don't over torque closure plate.

    1. Air filter - Loosen 2 butterfly nuts securing cover, open, discard used filter, install new filter, secure cover with butterfly nuts.
    2. Oil filter - Drain engine oil. Remove old oil filter, fill new filter with fresh oil, install new oil filter. Refill engine with new oil.
    3. Gas filter - Use pliers to squeeze hose clamps and slide about 2 inches away from each side of old gas filter. Remove old gas filter from gas hoses. Install new gas filter into gas hoses. Use pliers to squeeze hose clamps and slide to secure filter.

    1. Drain the oil.
    2. Remove the old oil filter.
    3. Install the new oil filter.
    4. Add the oil.
    5. Remove the old air filter.
    6. Install the new air filter.
    7. Remove the old fuel filter.
    8. Install the new fuel filter.

    The valve cover gasket was a little worn and the air cleaner needed changing.

    1. Removed the hood.
    2. Removed the gasket cover.
    3. Cleaned the part where the new gasket goes.
    4. Replaced the old gasket with the new gasket.
    5. Opened the cover and changed the old air cleaner with the new one.

    Removed valve cover, replaced gasket, reinstalled valve cover. checked for leaks. (none). Then I removed the air cleaner cover, removed the old air cleaner and placed the new one in, then installed the air clean cover back on
