Repair Difficulty:
Medium
Time Spent Repairing:

Tools Used:
Power Drill, Socket set, bits for 8 sided screws
Right wheel gear was worn and wheel was wobbly due to wheel teeth worn
Took both wheels off and used a 8 sided bit on both screws that hold gears on. I used a socket that fit the bit and used this on the left gear, then I used a power drill with the other bit on the right gear to break it loose so I could replace it. Also there is a pin that goes through the shaft that fits inside the gear when you reinstall the gear. It may fallout when you remove the old gear. Make sure you put it back in when you install the new gear or the wheel will not work.

Question: Not An Exact Replacement

1047494

Bought 2 of the wheels last summer for my TroyBilt Tuff Cut 230 mower, P/N: 734-04018. This was the compatible, replacement part for the original wheel.

The internal gears matched up to the mower's small drive gear, but the wheels could not be mounted to the front axle using a cotter pin, because of the center hub's recessed hole inside the wheel. I had to use a wood chisel to cut a bow-tie opening around the center hub plastic housing, so that I could insert a new cotter pin. Also, the front axle does not rotate, so nothing can extend past the recessed axle hole.

I made it work so I didn't have to return the wheels, but it took about an hour to fix. Had the wheels been made properly, it would have only taken 5 minutes to swap the wheels.
Question: Wheels

r both front wheels on a self propelled gear internal drive?
WJA
Hello 1172886,

Looking at the two parts diagrams below. It shows that both front wheels, part number 734-04018C are the same, and they are internal drive.
