• Worn brushes frequently are the cause behind a motor running poorly.
• Replacing brushes can fix a motor that’s operating intermittently.
• New brushes can restore a motor’s electric braking.

Carbon brushes are one of the most commonly replaced power tool parts. This is because carbon brushes are wear items, meaning that through friction and use they will gradually wear away until they need replacing. Worn brushes are a common causes of intermittent motor function, reduced electric braking and reduced motor power. A worn-out brush will often be worn down near to the wire lead and can be cracked, pitted, or burned. When replacing carbon brushes, be sure to inspect your armature for burns, cracks, or other damage which can indicate larger motor problems.

Bad switch, needed brushes
I pressed on the tabs on the top and bottom of the bad switch to release it from the housing. I removed one lead at a time from the old switch to the new switch then pressed the switch back into the housing. To replace the brushes I removed the brush caps with a screwdriver, then remove the old brushes and inserted the new ones. I then screwed the brush caps back on.

With a screwdriver, carefully remove the brush caps from the motor housing. Then remove the old brushes from the brush holder. If you have compressed air, now is a good time to clean out that area of the motor. Then insert the new brushes back into the holders and screw the brush caps back on.

Question: Brushes??

DWB

I have a Hitachi C15fb miter saw,,Brushes?? I'm fixing an older link removed?? How long are the brushes when they are link removed? When I let the trigger off mine seems to have a large spark from the front link removed? My brushes are about a ½" long? Good, Bad or link removed
Thanks,,, DWB
Hi DWB,The brushes are about 1" when new.As long as everything is in good working order the blue sparks you see when the tool is shutting down is the brake being applied.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Parts arrived exactly as I ordered in good time. This is not the first time I have shopped for replacement parts from this vendor nor will it likely be the last.
