The spring on the trimmer clutch broke, requiring a new clutch be installed

    1. Loosen screws on the trigger housing and slide towards the spool end of the shaft
    2. Remove screws holding the main shaft and pull the shaft out from the engine housing.
    3. Remove all screws on plastic engine housing to expose engine, clutch and on some models clutch housing, This may also require additional parts removal such as the muffler guard, air cleaner housing and other parts depending on the make and model.
    4. I don't have a clutch removal tool, but by securing the fly wheel with a piece of wood (to prevent breaking any flywheel fins) I used large Channel Locks to unscrew the clutch from the shaft. It came right off with little effort.
    5. Using the same technique, screw the new clutch onto the shaft.
    6. Reverse steps to reassemble.

This is a relatively simple repair. Take notes as you disassemble so you get it right upon reassembly. Also, the plastic piece on the shaft that has the throttle trigger on it should just be loosened so it slides on the shaft. If you take it apart and remove it, you may need to reassemble the throttle, throttle cable and spring.
