1. Starter mechanism pop riveted to engine requires drilling out the rivets.
2. Pull remaining rope out of mechanism, clamp so it won’t rewind, cut rope and remove knot.
3. Disassemble rope handle, remove broken rope, and attach new rope.
4. Wind take up reel against the return spring until you believe it will take up all of the new rope and the knot retainer hole in the reel is lined up with the hole in the mechanism frame. Clamp it.
5. Feed loose end of new rope through frame hole and retainer hole in the take up reel, knot the end, pull the knot tight against the reel, and release the clamp, allowing the spring to wind up the rope.
6. Attach mechanism to engine with short machine screws, nuts and star washers to keep vibrations from loosening the screws.
