Question: Replacing The Coil And Pulley St...

pdeeds007

I have a new coil but I don't know how to replace it on the pulley starter for my Briggs & Stratton Model 96902 Type 311301 lawnmower. The mower is over 30 years old and worked great until the coil broke and the pull cord wouldn't recoil to start the engine.
Hi pdeeds007 It is a little tricky. They usually ship them coiled, with a factory tie wire on them. Tie 2 small nylon zip ties to the coil opposite each other, unless you feel you can remove the factory tie wire once it is in the correct position. If you wont be able to reach it, use 2 small zip ties. Position them on the coil where you WILL be able to cut them off and remove them once the coil is in the correct orientation with the starter.
