The governor blew up inside the case.
Drained the oil, removed the engine from mower, removed oil pump, split the case cleaned all the old gasket material, cleaned both halves of the case, replaced the governor assembly, installed new gaskets, put the case back together, put engine back on mower, installed clutch and pulley system, adjusted the governor, started the mower and when to mowing the yard, no issues, and ran like a brand new mower.

Governor issues
I have a hobby of repairing zero turn mowers and just taking an engine out of the mower is half a book and then tearing down the motor and putting it back together is the other half.
I have purchased many parts from Ereplacementpartss because they have them in stock and ship promptly. I had a problem with one shipment which kinder went the murphy's law way. They fixed the problem quickly and free of charge. Good prices and great service

Question: Govener Shaft Counter Clockwise ...

jimmiej

Had a fire in back of 26hp briggs engine, now throttle which is attached to govener rod wont come back to idle, is there supposed to be tension counter clockwise to bring engine back to idle??
Hi jimmiej Any tension on a governor is produced by a spring connected to the governor lever outside the engine. There may be a spring on the machine to the throttle plate of the carburetor. Here is how to SET your governor per Briggs specifications. There are many, many governor linkage diagrams for Briggs all over the Internet if you need them.
