    Split tiller case to replace chain.
    Take pictures and notes.
    Lay the parts on a clean towel as you remove them, and place them in the order of removal.
    And take your time.

    A Chain broke on the wheel drive in the gear box of a Charftman rear tine tiller .

    1 Took the tiller all apart
    2. Split the gear box in half
    3 . took out all the gears and sifter
    cleaned out old grease .
    4 replaced nidle bearings .
    5 out new chain on .
    6 replaced all the Grears for tines and wheels .
    7 replace gasket .
    8 bolted gearbox back to gether and put fream back on gearbox .
    9 Ran it and its all working . Tilles and wheels pull as it all should . On A Craftman REAR tine Tiller .

    I took the whole thing apart down to the transmission. I watch YouTube. I put the chain Inside the transmission on .put it back together. good to go.

    Broken chain

    Disassembled handle bars, tines, sheet metal around tines, removed engine, removed belt and pulleys, removed weights and bumper, removed all bolts around transmission and broke case apart. Removed broken chain and cleaned case. Installed new chain and lubricated entire case. Installed new gasket and reassembled case and entire tiller

    Craftsman rear tine tiller transmission was frozen - not shifting and carb choke/governor where corroded and binding. Engine did not run.
