I split the auger from the drive and supported the drive against a ladder so that I could keep it upright and didn't have to siphon out the gas. Disconnected the augur cable from the control shaft and withdrew the control shaft from the front. Put in new control shaft. Seemed to have too much play and wasn't sure it wouldn't rub on drive pulley so I added another washer to reduce the play. The spring was the challenge and the reason everything took so long. Since the old one broke and came loose the attachment points were not obvious. The exploded view only showed the spring but didn't show where it attached. The attachment point to the auger idler arm pulley was easy to find but I couldn't see anything on the other side but a hole in the sheet metal 'box' enclosing the drive. I was concerned about using that directly since the spring end would have been exposed to the snow. After talking with a snowblower repairman I put a small eye-bolt in the hole and attached the spring to the eye-bolt so that the entire spring was contained in the 'box' . Yesterday and today I had the 'opportunity' to test the snowblower on 12 inches of wet (32 degree) snow and it did well.

Many problems: the drive and auger wouldn't engage, not scraping down to the driveway, two broken knobs, extremely worn skids, rusted chute at the bottom making it hard to rotate

Todd - November 12, 2017
I replaced lots of parts using multiple tools. The only problems I had was due to rusted fasteners. I had a great experience with eReplacementParts my order arrived very fast including one part (the chute assembly) all pieces fit perfect. I did a major overhaul now the blower is running great.
