Worked as expected, easy repair, great part
The spring is new and sealed in a bag, perfect fit for the weed eater, works great. The parts break down diagram of the weed eater was also a big help. It made it easier to disassemble the machine and fix the spring myself.

Rope would not retract, housing on spring was issue.

    1. Removed old spring and casing.
    2. Installed new spring and casing.
    3. Wound the spring with rope assembly to proper tension.
    4. Tested it to insure it would retract properly (this took some doing to get it perfect, actually unwound it one revolution per time to test in order to insure proper tension, too tight and it would not retract properly, too loose and it would not retract at all)
    5. Put it all back together and tested tension the final time.

    Hedge trimmer recoil spring

    Tool Type

    Hedge Trimmer

    Difficulty

    Medium

    Time

    30-60 minutes

    Tools Used

Screwdriver, Adjustable Wrench, Two different Torx screwdrivers, T20 and T25.

The most annoying part of this repair is getting to the spring. After you drain the gas out of it, you flip it over and start removing the Torx screws that hold the covers on it. When you get to the round disc that is bolted to the engine crankshaft, you need to remove the spark plug and stick some rope down the piston cylinder. Now when you turn the disc to remove it, the crank is held in place by the rope you have in the cylinder and it comes off, without goofing up the engine. After that, the spring is accessible. I recommend checking out You-Tube for a view of one of the many videos.

Just keep the screws in a way that you remember which goes where. I scratched in the plastic where the short and long screws went, You may want to right them down, if you care about little scratches in the plastic

    Difficulty

    Time

    Tools Used

Socket set, Adjustable Wrench, Allen wrenches

    1. Obtain a parts breakdown diagram for your trimmer.
    2. Using the above, determine what has to come off and how to get it off.
    3. In my case, the shaft came off first by removing the Allen bolts. Tip: spray bolts with Kroil Oil or equivalent.
    4. Remove the clutch cover by removing 4 Allen bolts. top cover comes off and lower cover just comes off next exposing the clutch.
    5. Remove the clutch by following the directions on the clutch. Keep parts in order/together as you remove them.
    6. Remove the cover right below the clutch with the starter rope assembly.
    7. Replace the starter rope and the spring.
    8. Reassemble in the reverse order.
    9. Now put on the rope handle pulling out the rope until the spring holds the rope handle flush to the case. You adjust by adding knots down the rope as needed to get the handle flush.
    10. Test the repair.
