2. Unscrewed the assembly attached to the weedwhacker shaft.
3. Used two adjustable wrenches to loosen the shaft off of the metal cord inside the shaft (be careful. Only apply the adjustable wrench to the hard metal parts. Requires a little muscle.)
4. Attach the new spool assembly and reverse the process.

2. Using adjustable wrench to hold one end of broken spool shaft, used pliers to loosen and completely unscrew the assembly from the drive shaft. This step is greasy.
3. Removed old broken spool housing and inserted new one.
4. Screwed new spool housing in place and tightened using wrench/pliers
5. Re-seated drive shaft end into place and replaced compression bolt and screw.
6. Good as new.

I would suggest taking a photo of the alignment of the sliding shaft parts as they move around,
so pay attention or get an enlargement of the parts breakdown.
There are two parts connected to the drive cable that could be more secure, so pay attention when taking the top section of the housing off.
