dewalt 788 scroll saw type 1

Anthony - June 7, 2019
Tool Type

Scroll Saw

Difficulty

Medium

Time

More than 2 hours

Tools Used

Screwdriver, Socket set, Wrench Set, valvaline synthetic grease

I replaced several sleeves, vertical rocker assembly, con rod assembly. Both come with bearings and sleeves. Con rod assembly must be purchased in order to get the proper sleeve. The sleeve that is listed in diagrams is wrong. Needed two new m6 screws to replace stripped ones. The project is still ongoing, waiting for con rod assembly to arrive. Took all parts with sleeves and bearings apart to check for wear, then applied Valvoline synthetic bearing grease in all bearings using Q tips. Also did the sleeves. Inserted sleeves and wiped excess grease. Lubrication from the factory will only last around a year. Valvoline synthetic grease should last at least 10 years. If your scroll saw is new, I recommend stripping it down and use the grease mentioned to keep your bearings and sleeves in new condition. Check all sleeves for scratches and indentations. Replace the ones that are bad.

Could not tighten blade on my scroll saw

James - December 4, 2017
Tool Type

Scroll Saw

Difficulty

Time

30-60 minutes

Tools Used

Wrench Set, Nutdriver, Adjustable Wrench

All the bushings {sleeves} were worn. Also I found that all the needle bearings in the rocker arm were falling out. After replacing the sleeves & the rocker arm I'm back scroll sawing again making Xmas gifts. It is probably a good idea to oil the pivot points once a year.
