Product Description

?

This is a genuine Echo replacement part. It is sold individually. By pressing the bulb it will purge the air from the carburetor. Then fuel will come up from the fuel tank through the fuel line then into the carburetor. The excess fuel will be forced back into the tank through the fuel return line. Over time the primer will lose its elasticity or crack and need to be replaced.

The primer on my Echo trimmer had split and was no longer working.

The repair was simple. I removed the breather cover (two screws), then a plate that held the primer in place (4 screws). I then cleaned the exposed surfaces with a clean rag and Q-tips, put the new primer in place, re-attached the primer plate and breather cover. I primed the engine and it started on the third pull just like it always does.

Took out the four screws holding the primer. Pulled off plate and replaced the primer. Put screws back in. Worked like a charm. Spilled a little fuel but not too messy. Easy. Repair center would have probably charged at least $45 for that.

This maintenance was pretty straight forward. Replacing air filter and spark plug was easy. Instructions come with spark plug gap number so that you can adjust the gap yourself. Replaced fuel vent, filter and primer tubes which are easy removed and replaced. Replaced fuel filter, as it\'s attached to the end of a tube inside of fuel tank. You use a 4\" wire and form a hook on the end of it in order to pull out the tube from inside the fuel tank. It has the fuel filter attached to it. Simple replace. I replaced the rubber primer bulb. It\'s attached by 4 screws to carburetor and easy to access. Just remove the screws and plate, then remove old bulb and replace with new primer bulb and reattach screws. This all took about 30 minutes. Very easy. You just need screwdriver, spark plug socket and wire cutters to cut a piece of wire with. Use a coat hanger wire or any flexible wire that you can stick inside the fuel tank.

Primer bulb was heavily discolored and leaking. Ethanol poisoning

John from Silver Spring, Maryland

18 of 18 people found this instruction helpful.
Difficulty Level:
Easy
Total Repair Time:
Less than 15 mins
Parts Used:
P005003120
Empty the fuel tank or tip the blower on its side so the fuel won\'t run into the carburetor.
Remove the air cleaner element.
Use a #2 Phillips bit in a driver/drill and remove the screws that hold the carburetor to the blower motor. You can then easily remove the tubes to the carburetor. Make sure you remember which tube goe s where! One is from the tank and goes to the primer/carb the other goes from the tank to the carb.
Use the #2 Phillips bit in the driver to remove the four screws holding the square plate with a round hole that holds the primer bulb. Be careful the entire carb assembly doesn\'t come apart and tear a rubber diaphragm or worse. Remove the plate and old primer bulb and replace the primer bulb with a new one and reverse the disassembly. Be careful with the driver if you use it to screw in the bolts. Start them by hand and then carefully run them in and then tighten them just enough. Use loctite blue if you wish. I didn\'t but then I\'ve not had trouble with screws backing out on my echo blower.

Fuel filter tube broken off in fuel tank , dirty air and fuel filters, cracked primer bulb

Martha from Matthews, North Carolina

Total Repair Time:

Tools:
Pliers, Screw drivers
Replace primer bulb by removing metal plate screws and replacing old bulb. Remove and replace old air filter in same manner. Remove grommet containing fuel lines from opening in fuel tank. Attach new fuel filter to new fuel line and push through opening in new grommet from underside. Install new grommet in tank opening and then push r emaining tubes in proper holes. It is important to wait to install the remaining tubes after the new grommet is in place in order to have enough flexibility to squeeze the grommet to fit the opening in the tank.

Removed fuel lines from air purge body assembly. Removed the purge bulb retainer. Removed fuel line grommet from fuel tank by prying out with a screw drive. Inserted new fuel line, fuel vent line, and fuel return lines in new fuel line grommet. Inserted new grommet with lines into fuel tank by carefully using a screw driver to push gr ommet into the opening. Then inserted fuel tank vent into the vent line. As a precaution, I changed out the air purge body assembly. Attached the fuel line and the fuel return line to the air purge body assembly. I had taken a photo of the connections before dis-assembly to be sure I got the lines back in the right places. Installed the new purge bulb and reinstalled the purge bulb retainer. Hedger now runs great.

Watched your video on \"How to Clean a Two-Cycle/Two-Stroke Engine Carburetor\". Which really helped, because I have never torn down a carburetor before. After I had it all together, I replaced the primer and primer cover. This is the video I watched, if someone else could use it.
