Recoil rope replacement, new studs and nuts that secure recoil to engine

    William - April 22, 2016
    Tool Type

    Difficulty

    Easy

    Time

    15-30 minutes

    Tools Used

    Screwdriver, Socket set, Wrench Set

Kawasaki 15 HP engine on a Gravely zero turn walk behind lawn mower. (Although most recoil pull start rope replacement is the same) Remove recoil from engine (Kawasaki requires removal of 4 nuts) Remove old rope from recoil. WIND RECOIL AS FAR AS IT WILL GO, then back off 1 rotation. Use a screwdriver or any object that will fit through the recoil spindle and vent on cover. (just allows you to install new rope without recoil fighting you). Slip rope through cover hole and into slotted spindle and again through to inner hole. Pull through and knot rope to secure it to recoil spindle. Make a great tight knot. Then slip other end of rope through handle and again, make a great knot with 1 inch of spare rope. Remove the screwdriver holding recoil spindle in place and the recoil spindle will spin in line until handle reaches housing. Secure recoil unit to engine and mow some grass, or whatever makes you happy
