This is an authentic OEM part for use with Craftsman Chainsaws. The recoil starter repair kit replaces the parts of the engine\\\'s recoil starter susceptible to normal wear. The most common reason for replacing the recoil starter repair kit is if the engine won’t turn over when starter rope is pulled the Starter rope pulls too easily (and without resistance) the Starter hub is not engaging the flywheel or the Starter hub is not turning with the pulley (when the rope is pulled). This part includes starter pulley the assist spring and the starter hub. Here is a list of tools that are needed to install the recoil starter repair kit Phillip’s screwdriver, Torx drivers, long-nosed pliers, and scissors or wire cutters (optional).

Recoil starter was bad. Rope would not retract.

Took out the old spring.
Installed new parts. I had difficulty getting the recoil spring in without unwinding
Replace wheel and gear.
Tuned the gear to wind the coil.
Reinstall rope.
Tested the recoil starter.
Installed cover back on the chainsaw.
