The old breather hose was severely cracked leaking crankcase fumes.

-Beforehand: Since the new hose is an old stock part and has been in storage for a long time it was a little deformed making nearly impossible to attach to the air filter housing without removing it. I inserted a 3/8” drive socket into the hose and let it stand to be heated by the sun on a car’s dashboardfor a few hours. An option would be to remove the air filter housing.
- remove the old breather hose from the rocker cover and the air filter housing. I recommend to remove and clean the rocker cover and its filter from the inside at this time. I used brake parts cleaner. If you decide to do so, get a new rocker cover gasket beforehand. I replaced the whole rocker cover since it had rust spots. If you remove the rocker cover, then attach the breather hose to it and verify that is sealing correctly. Reinstall the rocker cover and go to step 4.
- Install the breather hose on the rocker cover. The flattened portion of the hose has a sealing lip which has to seal from the inside so verify that the groove of the hose has seated correctly.
- Couple the tubular side of the breather hose to the air filter housing.
- Verify everything adequately tightened.
